One my kids' favorite videos on Netflix around Halloween time is Room on the Broom. The story is about a witch who goes around her broom and picks up various wildlife along the way (if you have kids and you haven't seen this yet - make sure you watch with them - the adorable factor in the movie is set on max!) and every time she stops for some reason, she always finds wildlife (a frog, a bird, etc.) wanting to join her in her journey (much to the chagrin of her cat!). As story goes on to follow the adventures of the witch and cat (no spoilers here!), every time they get ready to take to the sky the narrator can be heard saying "and a woooosh! They were gone...." as the witch, cat, and friends take off to the next stop.
Much like the witch and her friends, after 19 years of teaching including the last 7 years as Social Studies Department Chair, I am ready for a new adventure in the classroom. Beginning next year I will be implementing the blended model of teaching in my Economics classes. This blog will follow those adventures as I embark on trying something entirely new (and even in year 19 I still get nervous when I try something new in the classroom). All the good, the bad, and the "oh my gosh we will never talk about THAT again" parts will all be talked about here and the adventure will surely provide numerous opportunities for humor, reflection, and growth.
I am piloting my first unit this week and there is definitely room on the broom to join me in this adventure.
Are you ready?
And a woooooosh!
